DSSD. is a registered Non-Profit organization and Tax exempt section 18A.
The aims of the organization is to teach persons with multiple disabilities a skill that could assist them in finding employment or opening a small business to generate an income for themselves, the vision is to alleviate poverty, empower & place disabled persons into society with independance and confidence. The organization has invested time and resouces to achieve the Aims & Visions with hard work and dedication, these are some of the achievements:
Computer Training at DSSD has commenced, training of Internet and touch typing. Course’s are given FREE to persons with multiple disabilities & persons less fortunate from the community.
Melanie Labuschagne, from the Bluff who is deaf, and also physically disabled, received a domestic sewing machine after attending DSSD FREE Sewing Training course the sewing machine has helped Melanie to put together her creative ideas and sell them at her nearest home industry to generate an income for herself.
Lynette Birch who was given an over locker machine from DSSD last month has began sewing chair covers. Lynette has always had a passion for sewing and would like to own her own Function Hire Business, the business will generate an income for her and her husband who are both unemployed.
Zanele attented DSSD FREE Administration course in 2007 & was placed in the open labour market in 2008, she is still working for the same company and is doing extremly well.
DSSD relys on Donations, Sponsors & Fundraizing events to raise money to towards projects that are offered FREE to persons with multiple disabilities and also towards the organizations operational cost. The organization's vehicle that was used to pick up and drop off disabled persons was recently hijacked, although the transport service to the disabled persons still runs, as staff members use thier personal vehicles to assist. The organization seeks all types of donations to help persons set up a small business after attending the DSSD project trianing courses of Computer Trianing, Administration, Sewing, Woodcraft, Baking, Making Biltong & Arts & Crafts.
